End Of Summer. Time To Plan For Winter.
It's coming to the end of the summer league which means that people are starting to ask me whether the winter league will go ahead again this year.
The answer to that is simple: who wants it to go ahead, how many teams can we form and which pistes are available? To answer most of that, I need to know who wants to play. Last year was, I believe very successful. Not only did we mix and match players from the summer league teams but we had a team from the Tuesday night league. As far as I am concerned, the winter league isn't just restricted to Wednesday night players so pass the word on to Tuesday night league players.
As a reminder, last year we played every other Sunday starting at 1pm and finishing around 3pm. Each match consisted of 3 x singles, 2 x doubles and 1 x triples meaning that you only need 4 players a side for each match (though a team would probably have 5 players to cover illness etc). Playing every 2 weeks means that there is plenty of time to rearrange matches which may be cancelled due to bad weather (only happened once I think last year) or multiple illnesses (2 players from the same household going down with something at the same time).
I propose the 2024/5 Winter League runs from 20th October to 15th December and re-starts after Christmas on either 12th or 19th January. So, pass the word around all your team mates and to players from other leagues and email me if you would like to play and I shall try and arrange a meeting of those who are interested at the end of September/beginning of October where we can finalise teams etc. Looking forward to hearing from you, Dave Sellick.
2024
Participating captains: Mark Underwood (Winner, North Anchor), Dave Sellick (Runner-up, Anchor), Brenda Bol (Crown), Sue Noades (Bell Ringers), Phil Sargeant (Barley Mow), Steve Crombie (Bell vice captain).
Our Singles winner was Neil Stubbs (Crown) who defeated Giles Beaumont (Anchor) in a very close match. Matt Warren and Mark Underwood (North Anchor) won the Doubles match against Phil Wayles and Jody Arch (Crown). North Anchor players were also successful in the Triples competition when Matt & Alex Warren and Chris Foster won against Phil Wayles, Alison Owen and Neil Stubbs from the Crown. Well done all.

There were some very tight (and long) games last night and I hope those participating enjoyed themselves. There will be a Triples knockout competition later in the season (26th June).
Now looking forward to the start of the summer league in April which, hopefully will be a bit warmer. Dave
Updated Rules (v8) are available to view and download from the Information page.
The AGM will be held on Wednesday the 28th February, 7.30pm at The Anchor in Little Paxton. All players are welcome, including those people who wish to join a team - we'll find spaces for you or perhaps even create a new team. Dave Sellick is happy to continue as Chairman but if anyone would like to take on the roll then feel free to come forward and be counted.
We look forward to seeing lots of you at the meeting.
