Revised Dates

The draw for the semi-finals of the Past Players Memorial Trophy is now on the website. Crown vs Barley Mow to be played at The Anchor and Anchor vs North Anchor to be played at The Crown. Because of the week we lost to the football, the final of the Past Players Memorial Trophy will be played on 2nd October at The Bell. The Captains Cup and Presentation Night has been moved to the 9th October. Finals Night is unchanged (25th September).

Fixture Clash As England Qualify For Euro 2024 Semi-finals

Another tense match sees England miraculously get through to the Euro 2024 semi-finals on Wednesday night. So we can watch our national team take on Netherlands, all our petanque league matches scheduled for July 10th have been moved to the 17th to replace the first round of the Past Players Memorial Trophy which, in turn, has been re-scheduled to August 7th. Fixtures on the website now reflect these changes.

2024 Triples Knockout Finalists

Congratulations to Phil, Alison & Neil from the Crown and Matt, Alex & Chris from the North Anchor for getting through to the final of the Triples knockout competition on 25th September.

2024 Doubles Knockout Finalists

Congratulations to Phil & Jody from the Crown and Matt & Mark from the North Anchor for winning their respective venue finals in the Doubles Knockout competition last night. Both teams go through to play in finals night on 25th September.
There were some very tight (and long) games last night and I hope those participating enjoyed themselves. There will be a Triples knockout competition later in the season (26th June).

2024 Singles Knockout Finalists

Congratulations to Peter Feneley and Neil Stubbs from the Crown team, Giles Beaumont (Anchor) and Matt Warren (North Anchor) for their successes in the singles knockout competition last night. All four go through to Finals Night on 25th September.

Meet The Team - Bell Ringers

There’s been a bit of a change around at the Bell. Following John Bowskill’s ‘retirement’ from our Wednesday league, Steve Milligan has defected from Bell Ringers to captain rival team the Bell plus a switch around of some players between the two teams and the addition of a few new ones. Sue Noades (third from left) meanwhile has taken on the challenge of leading Bell Ringers to success and actually landed a 5-4 victory on their first outing!

Practice Session #2

Only eight players turned up for the practice session at the Bell last night. The earlier rain and very cold chill probably put many people off.

2024 Summer League Fixtures Published

No sooner have we declared winners of the Winter League we are happy to say the fixture list for the new 2024 Summer League is now live on the website. The competition starts on April 24th with practice sessions on the two preceding weeks. Thanks to Steve for getting it sorted. Not long now before it all starts. Get out the sunglasses!

Winter League Winners

Congratulations to Anchors Astray for winning the inaugural Winter League. The full results are here on the website. It's been fun and I hope everyone taking part has enjoyed it. The weather didn't have a massive effect on the fixtures which was good, but it was a bit cold at times. Hopefully this will become an annual event with more players and teams taking part.
Now looking forward to the start of the summer league in April which, hopefully will be a bit warmer. Dave

Rule Change For Incorrectly Thrown Jack

Existing rules state a player has three attempts to throw a jack after which it is handed to opponent for three attempts. Recently modified Petanque England rules state the jack should be handed to the opponent to place anywhere on the piste (within the normal boundaries) after one failed attempt. AGM attendees agreed to adopt the Petanque England rule but after three failed attempts to throw a valid jack.

2024 Annual General Meeting

It's time to start thinking about the new season.
The AGM will be held on Wednesday the 28th February, 7.30pm at The Anchor in Little Paxton. All players are welcome, including those people who wish to join a team - we'll find spaces for you or perhaps even create a new team. Dave Sellick is happy to continue as Chairman but if anyone would like to take on the roll then feel free to come forward and be counted.
We look forward to seeing lots of you at the meeting.
