2026

🥇 2026 League Winners

Since records began back in 2007, no other team has come anywhere close to beating the Crown's record for winning the league. Eight times in eighteen seasons (two seasons were missed due to COVID). So, here we are again; a group of players in red polo shirts receiving that coveted trophy. And a special 'Well Done' to new captain Alison Lesley Owen for getting them there.

🥈 2026 League Runners Up

It was a very close run thing for second place. Only one point separated Phil Sargeant's Barley Mow team from third placed Eaton Badgers. Both teams had won 72 out of their 108 league games which shows how very close it really was. One extra match win bonus point for the Barley Mow made the difference.

2026 Captains Cup

A sense of deja vu here as Dave Sellick received the Captains Cup from Chairman Sue Noades. Dave had only just brought back the trophy after sitting on a shelf at home for the last year following his win in 2025!

2026 Singles Knockout Trophy

This was the surprise of Finals Night! We have some especially strong singles players in the league but Carol Footner of the Bell Ringers blew them all away to win the Singles Knockout tournament. This achievement is especially significant given that Carol has only played four singles league games throughout the whole season. She normally buddies up with other team members in Doubles or Triples games.

2026 Doubles Knockout Winners

Phil Wayles and Jody Arch are no strangers to holding the Doubles Knockout trophy, this being a record-breaking third time since 2013 the formidable duo have gone home with this particular piece of 'silverware'.

2026 Triples Knockout Winners

Matt Warren, Alex Warren and Conner Scott of the Eaton Badgers lifted the Triples trophy after beating a Crown team in a long final game. Matt and Alex were also part of the winning triples team back in 2024.

In Memory Of John Bowskill

This year's Past Players Memorial Trophy has been dedicated to the memory of John Bowskill who sadly passed away earlier this year. John was a very active league member and captained a number of teams from 2014 to 2019. John's family attended our Finals Night to present the trophy to winners Eaton Badgers.

Thank You! Dave Sellick

Sue presented a special one-off trophy to Dave Sellick in recognition of his tenure and leadership of the league from 2023 to 2025. Dave was instrumental in creation of the now highly successful Winter League which will shortly enter it's fourth season.

Chairman's Commendations

Sue made two special commendation awards at 2026 Finals Night. They went to Luke Searle and Toni Scrivener for each 'taking a huge plunge into the deep end' by creating from scratch and then leading a new team, almost completely consisting of inexperienced players, through the 2026 tournament season.

Winter League 2025-6 Winners Trophy

2026 Finals Night. Alex Warren accepted the 2025-6 Winter League Winners Trophy on behalf of 'On The Piste', captained by Matt Warren, who finished a massive 17 points clear of their nearest rival.

Past Players Memorial Trophy Winners 2026

Congratulations to the Eaton Badgers for beating The Crown at last week's Past Players Memorial Final. They had a win of 5 - 4 and there were some great matches played with fantastic shots, often with one shooting out another or pointing in with great precision. The games were of a very high level and great to watch. Well done all 👏

Captains Cup/Presentation Night Date Change

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to amalgamate the Captains Cup/Presentation Evening, originally scheduled for October 7th, with Finals Night on Wednesday evening 30th September at the Bell.
Due to a large number of games now being played, it will help if Captains and finalists can be there at 6:30pm and start games by 7:00pm.
Well done to everyone that has played through the summer season and good luck to everyone playing in the Finals.

Triples Open Melee

A huge thank you to everyone that came along to our Triples Open Melee. It was a great night and very well supported. A big ‘thank you’ to Matt for helping run the evening but might need to get Sue a quieter whistle for next time though😅

Congratulations to:
🥇John Holden for taking Gold First Place,
🥈Stephen for Silver Second Place
🥉Connor taking the Bronze Third Place

2026 Doubles Knockout Finalists

Congratulations to Matt Smith & Val Sellick (Eaton Badgers) and Phil Wayles & Jody Arch (Crown) for winning their way through to the 2026 Doubles Knockout Finals.

NEW! Player Form Guide

There is a Player Form Guide for every combination of players that have competed during the season. This example is for Phil Sargeant and Ray Curtin of the Barley Mow who are the current top performing doubles pair in the league. The Player Form Guide gives a full performance breakdown including details of their opposition in each game played. These are available by clicking on players in a Team Player Table or Top 5 Players League Table (see separate news items below).

NEW! Team Players Table

These are similar to the Top 5 Players League Tables detailed below but for all players in each team by game type. This example shows all the Doubles Pairs that have played so far this season for the Bell Ringers. The tables, when used alongside the new Player Form Guide (see separate news item), have been specifically designed to help captains be better informed when making player selection choices, but are available to everyone. The numbers under player names are: Average Number of Points Earned per Game (green), Average Number of Points Conceded per Game (red), Number of Games Played (blue). The adjacent blue ellipsis symbol links to a new Player Form Guide (see details in a separate news item). These tables can be accessed by clicking on a team in the main league table on the Results page and then one of the game type buttons.

NEW! Top 5 Players League Table

To give recognition to top performing players in the league competition, we have added a new Top 5 Players League Table to the Results page; one for each game type (Singles, Doubles, Triples). Players must complete 3+ league competition games during the season in order to qualify for inclusion in the table. The numbers under player names are: Average Number of Points Earned per Game (green) and Average Number of Points Conceded per Game (red). The adjacent blue ellipsis symbol links to a new Player Form Guide (see details in a separate news item). The top placed in each game type also get a banner underneath the table.

Hidden In Plain Sight

You will find versions of this ellipsis symbol ( … ) dotted around the web site. They are links revealing hidden gems of additional information or acting as shortcuts to other parts of the site. When you see one, click/tap it and see what it reveals. You might be surprised!
For example, today we have just added them into the 'Previous Encounters' sections of the fixtures page providing direct links to the related scoresheet. To see the 'Previous Encounters' click the ellipsis link on any fixture!

2026 Open Doubles Melee

Massive Congratulations to Alex Warren for winning our first Open Doubles Melee and Connor Scott coming runner up.
What a fantastic turn out we had with some well fought out battles. Thank you to the 34 participants for making it a great evening and for all having a huge part in what is hopefully the first of more to come.

2026 Singles Knockout Finalists

Well done to everyone who played in the Singles Competition on Wednesday. It was a fantastic night and great fun at both venues. There were 25 players in total and some great matches played, with very close scores but a huge congratulations goes to Matt Warren (Eaton Badgers), Jody Arch (The Crown), Dale Green (Bell Ringers) and Carol Footner (Bell Ringers) for getting through to the finals in September.

John Bowskill Passes Away Age 77

John Bowskill sadly passed away peacefully in hospital on April 24th. Our thoughts are with his wife Christine, family and loved ones.
John had been an active member of our league for over a decade and captained numerous teams during that period including the Cambridgeshire Hunter (2015), White Horse B (2016-17), Windy Millers (2018-19).
We will dedicate this year's Past Players Memorial Trophy to John's memory.

☀️ Summer League Incoming!

As the Winter League closes so the Summer League starts. In customary fashion, we will be hosting two Open Practice Sessions on the weeks preceding the Summer League's first fixtures on April 22nd. Our New Chairman

Pleased to announce that Sue Noades was elected Chairman at the AGM this week following the planned retirement of Dave Sellick. Sue has done a great job organising and running the 2025 Winter League and is already planning the 2026 summer season.
